Wilhelm Donko

Wilhelm M. DONKO was born in Linz in 1960, his hometown is Schärding, Upper Austria; worked as free-lance journalist in the 1980s (mainly on US naval issues).

He graduated from Salzburg University in 1987 (history/geography); following post graduate studies 1988-90 at Tokyo University ("Todai") he joined the Austrian diplomatic service in 1990.

Since then he has been assigned to Austrian missions in Algiers (1992), Moscow (1993-97) and Ankara (1997-2001) and served as deputy director general for East Asia/Oceania in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna. His first posting as ambassador was in Seoul (2005-09), followed by Manila (since August 2009).

Married to Yan DONKO (nee ZHANG)

Two children: Wilhelm Man (1993), Katharina Yan Aloisia (1998)
