Guy Gratton

Guy Gratton is an aeronautical engineer and pilot, who spends most of his time trying to push the boundaries of science and aviation.

Guy started his working life as an apprentice at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, before moving into military flight testing working for the UK Ministry of Defence, and later into the airworthiness of microlight aeroplanes and academic teaching and research. He now works at Cranfield University as an Associate Professor, working in the overlap areas between aerospace engineering, and environmental science.

In between he writes regularly: mostly on aviation, although he also produced his Medical Records Book, purely because he thought the world needed it. Apart from his books, he also writes a monthly column: "Aircraft Technical" in Global Aviator magazine, and papers for journals such as Aeronautical Journal and Journal of Aeronautical History. Guy won the 2014 Royal Aeronautical Society Bronze Award, as well as a handful of other awards for aeronautical research over the previous ten years, and won the round-Britain microlight rally in 2012. He occasionally appears on TV, radio, or documentaries for Discovery and others - usually trying to explain aviation accidents.

When not doing all of that, Guy practices Jiu Jitsu and grows his own vegetables. He is married to Petra, his co-author in Achieving Success with the Engineering Dissertation.
