Laura Levine's background as a cross-disciplinary visual artist has led her to pursue a variety of projects in photography, fine art, documentary filmmaking, television animation, and illustration.
Laura Levine's iconic rock photography portraits have appeared in countless magazines, album covers and books, as well as dozens of exhibitions, photography anthologies and published collections of fine art photographs. Her photographs have been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum, Museo Colecciones ICO in Madrid, The Annenberg Space for Photography, and the Steven Kasher Gallery. Permanent collections include the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and numerous private collections.
As a self-taught artist, her paintings have been exhibited internationally and are in the permanent collections of the Museum of International Folk Art, The House of Blues, and the Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome. Her work has been shown at La Luz de Jesus, Copro Nason Gallery, the Kunstmuseum Luzern in Switzerland, the Museum of American Illustration and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as in numerous one-person and group exhibits. .
Levine's award-winning illustrations have been commissioned by magazines such as The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Blab! and The New York Times Magazine as well for numerous books and CD covers. She's created an animated television pilot for MTV and several critically-acclaimed children's picture books (Wig! with the B-52's; Shake, Rattle & Roll, and Honky-Tonk Heroes and Hillbilly Angels, the latter two based on her series of biographical portraits of musicians).
