Mansoor Ladha

Mansoor Ladha was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, East Africa, in 1943, immigrating to Canada in 1972.He was features editor of the leading Tanzanian English daily, The Standard, and later worked as a copy editor with the Daily Nation in Nairobi, Kenya. In Canada, he worked as a copy editor with the Edmonton Journal and later for a long time was the only visible minority publisher/ owner of two suburban weeklies near Edmonton throughout Canada.

His first book, A Portrait in Pluralism, was published in 2008 by Detselig. He was also one of the writers invited to contribute a chapter in the book, The Story That Brought Me Here: To Alberta from Everywhere (Brindle and Glass, 2008.) Last year, he was awarded the Silver Quill Award by the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Asso. for 25 years of distinguished service to newspapers and bestowed Caring Canadian Award by the Governor General of Canada "in recognition of your outstanding and selfless contribution to your community and Canada."

He is a regular columnist of the Calgary Herald, Kerby News, Lethbridge Herald, Medicine Hat News newspapers. His recent book is Memoirs of a Muhindi: Fleeing from East Africa to the West published by University of Regina Press.
