Alex Norman is a lecturer at the Department of Studies in Religion, University of Sydney, and a sessional lecturer at the University of Western Sydney. His book Spiritual Tourism (Continuum 2011) examines the intersection of travel and secular spiritual practice by contemporary Westerners. With Carole M. Cusack he is co-Editor of the Handbook of New Religions and Cultural Production (Brill 2012). He recently stepped down as co-Editor of the journal Literature & Aesthetics, and Vice-President of the Sydney Society for Literature and Aesthetics in order to take on roles as the co-Editor of the International Journal for the Study of New Religions, and Managing Editor of the Journal of Sociology. His research interests include tourism and religion, new religious movements, space travel, astronomy, food, photography, and the practice of secular spirituality in the everyday. He hopes to make tourism a more thoroughly examined subject in the study of religion.
