Vincent Giroud

Born in Paris, Vincent Giroud attended the École normale supérieure and Wadham College, Oxford. After working as program adviser at the French Commission for Unesco, he taught at the Johns Hopkins University and St Mary's College, Twickenham. In 1987 he was recruited as curator of modern books and manuscripts at the Beinecke Library, Yale University, where he remained until 2004. After that he taught at Vassar College and Bard College and from 2008 through 2021 was professor of English and comparative literature at the Université de Franche-Comté. In addition to his writings in cultural history, he translates from French into English and from English into French and is a regular contributor to the online journal nonfiction.fr. He lives in New York.
