Jack Petree

Jack Petree (that's me) is a freelance writer with something in the range of 3000 articles published in trade and consumer magazines, a few published short stories, five published books (two published under the Petree name, one co-authored by Clayton Petree and, two ghost written for others) as well as numerous other works including a number of "white papers" on growth and growth management issues.

Jack's second sale was a piece on the renowned Mt. Baker Marathon carried in Sports Illustrated. Sales to Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, Espionage Magazine and others followed. Midway through a potential book deal with a major traditional publisher Jack and his employer parted ways so it was time to start making a real living capable of supporting a family.

3,000 plus non-fiction articles later it is time to go back and see what might be possible but, no regrets. I've got a great family and I've done interesting work.

A graduate of Western Washington University with a major in history and time spent as a teaching assistant for a renowned professor of Northwest History, Keith Murray, Petree's writing career has focused on explaining complex issues to businessmen and women. Jack Petree has also researched and written articles and other material placed in venues as diverse as Paul Harvey's "Rest of the Story," Sports Illustrated, the American Planning Association's Practicing Planner and Compressed Air and Duke University's "Environmental History.

As co-owner of Public Policy Perspectives, a research and policy analysis group in Bellingham, Washington, Jack has worked to focus on business issues as informed by environmental policy. Recognized for their efforts to help businesses promote "practical environmentalism," while maintaining profitability, reasonable prices for the consumer and serious environmental enhancements, the two policy consultants work with business, activist groups and individuals, providing policy analysis with application to real world situations. Areas of particular expertise include growth management, "green" approaches to design and construction, the forest products industry and the impacts on business of climate change legislation.
