Cal is a financial advisor with Savant Capital Management and manager of their Virginia office. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations and oversight of the Virginia office. He also serves on the senior management team.
Cal has over 25 years of experience in the financial services field. He received his masters of science in taxation (MST) at American University in Washington, D.C., and graduated cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Mr. Brown is currently an Adjunct Professor in the MST program at American University, teaching the estate planning course. Cal is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and past Chairman of the National Capital Area chapter (FPA-NCA), and received the Norma Severns Leadership Award for extraordinary efforts on behalf or for the benefit of the local chapter. Mr. Brown speaks regularly at the FPA National Conference.
The Washingtonian magazine named Cal as one of the top 33 financial planners in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area. He authored the book When Life Strikes: Weathering Financial Storms. Mr. Brown has three professional contributions published in the Journal of Financial Planning and has authored articles appearing in Bloomberg Wealth Manager and Financial Planning magazines. He has appeared on CNBC, Fox 5 DC, the PBS "Nightly Business Report," WAVA-FM (Washington, D.C.), and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal. He has also been quoted in Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, Smart Money, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, CNNfn, Financial Planning magazine, Mutual Funds magazine, and InvestmentNews. Cal was previously Vice President of The Monitor Group, which combined with Savant Capital Management in June 2012.
