A Japanese Permanent Resident, Sleiman Azizi's unexpected experiences whilst studying the martial arts lead to the publication of his first book The Art of Life and Death. This was followed up with dedications to his teacher with Shadow Inspiration, Dancing Embers, Cloud Break and the compilation volume Shadow Grove. Writing in English, Sleiman uses the classical Japanese literary technique of zuihitsu to sidestep the cliches of the martial arts and pay homage to the lessons of nature learnt through two decades of study.
