Manuela Salvi

Manuela Salvi was born in 1975 in Italy, where she has published over 20 titles, some translated for the French, Spanish and German markets. After her YA novel “Girl Detached” was banned in Italy, it was published in the UK by Barrington Stoke and was longlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2017. Manuela’s research project on censorship in western children’s publishing has earned her the Jacqueline Wilson Scholarship for a PhD in creative writing at Roehampton University in London. She is has founded the Italian Children’s Writers Association (ICWA), works as a translator and copyeditor, and teaches creative writing.

She’s using a pen name – M.D.Cheever – for her adult fiction, which is translated into English by Denise Muir.
