B N Oakman

B N Oakman (Bruce to his friends) is an erstwhile academic economist who turned to poetry in 2006. Since then his publishing record in magazines, journals and newspapers in Australia and overseas has been described as 'phenomenal'. In Defence of Hawaiian Shirts is his first collection.

'Who knows what urged him to write poetry? But it was a stroke of genius.

Beautifully composed words leap effortlessly from the pages.

Go buy a copy. Now.'

Bryan Patterson, The Sunday Herald Sun.

'These wry, compact elegies for lost souls, doomed worlds, vanished ideals double as powerful protests against the rationalisations and reductions of post-modernity.'

Ian Britain, Former Editor, Meanjin.

'B N Oakman is a regular reader of his own work at the monthly poetry event in the town of Castlemaine. He would be well worth hearing, on the evidence of this splendidly titled book of verse.'

Peter Pierce, The Canberra Times.
