Rod Scurlock

Rod Scurlock was born and raised on a ranch in Western Washington. He served on a gunboat in the Pacific during WWII, graduated from Oregon State University,worked as a logger, surveyor,and rancher, and spent thirty years working for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. He and his crew managed a herd of cattle on a one-half million acre ranch on the Mescalero Indian Reservation in New Mexico. He was also Superintendent of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Montana. Rod and his family lived and worked on Indian reservations much of his adult life. He has lived and experienced the depictions contained in his books on ranch and western life. He and his wife have two children, Linda and David. They live in Boise, Idaho, and on their ranch in Western Washington.
