I am a self-titled "Professional Brain Developer" and have enjoyed fostering the development of little minds in my Family Childcare Program since 1998. I am a defender of play and a believer in letting young children lead their learning through self-motivated discoveries, ideas and imaginations.
In 2009 I added "professional speaker" to my resume, and I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed that journey!! I LOVE to inspire other early childhood professionals through humor, thought provoking moments, hands-on experiences and sharing ideas that they can take back to their own programs in order to foster learning through play. I firmly believe that children need their childhoods back and that adults need to remember to trust in play!! I also believe that defending play begins with early childhood professionals. We need to be the ones to dissect play for parents and "the powers that be" in order to open their eyes and remind them how children learn best!!
Through speaking, the doors to "author" were opened, and here I am....preparing to sign copies of my first book, "Let Them Play: An Early Childhood Uncurriculum" that I had the extreme honor of co-authoring with Jeff A. Johnson.
It is with extreme excitment and anticipation that I look forward to a future filled with young children once again allowed to "just" play with NO GUILT. To once again learn through discoveries that are inspired by their own interests and problems being solved with their own ideas. Ideas that are developed through the knowledge that a young child CAN develope when given the opportunity to lead their own learning through PLAY!!
