Giftus R. John

Giftus John was born in St. Joseph on the Caribbean island of Dominica. In 1975 Giftus entered the National Day Poetry and Short Story competitions and emerged first place winner in both categories with "To You Land I Pay Allegiance" and "Converted," respectively.

Writing became a passion for Giftus who published the first of his four poetry collections, "The Dawn", in 1978, followed by "Words in the Quiet Moments" in 1981-both published in Dominica. "The Island Man Sings His Song" was published in the USA in 2001 and his latest, "Verses from atop the Mountain"' in 2015.

In 2005, Giftus published his first collection of local short stories entitled "Mesye Kwik! Kwak!"

In 2011 he published what he thinks has been his best piece of work, "Ma William and Her Circle of Friends."

In 2018, Giftus published his latest book "Two Weeks One Summer," the story of young boy and his family spending summer vacations with his paternal grandmother and visiting his dad's relatives.

Giftus is presently working on two new projects which he hopes to have published within the coming months.
