Tom Day and I married in 1970, moved to Michigan, and had two children who are both grown, one a Director of Research for a financial company and the other a Nurse in the US Army, recently returned from Iraq. We have four grandsons and one granddaughter. My husband retired from the Army after 30 years. He began his military career as an Arabic Linguist with the Air Force and ended as the Installation Chaplain at Fort Huachuca, AZ. We have lived in Germany, Greece, Belgium, Korea, California, New Jersey, Texas, Kansas, Maryland, and Arizona. I have earned my keep in human resource development, teaching on a graduate and undergraduate level, and teaching English as we have moved worldwide.
After retirement, we undertook a five week horse-camping vacation, starting just north of the Mexican border up through central Arizona to Durango and Creede, up the headwaters of the Rio Grande, and, finally, to the Great Sand Dunes. Shortly thereafter, we bought a home where the sun shines and the heat bakes most of the year.
My two favorite vacations were to Mongolia and to Kenya. In 2006, we flew to Mongolia where we joined in the celebration of the 800th Anniversary of Genghis Khan's Great Mongolian Empire. We hired a driver and translator, rented a jeep, and travelled two weeks across the mountains, steppe, and Gobi desert. Rode hearty little horses across the steppe and delightful bactrian (two humped) camels across the Gobi. Awesome, magical place to see before it is spoiled with civilization. In 2012, I flew to Kenya with a friend and stayed with another friend in her lovely home in Nairobi. We three 60-ish grandmothers took a three-day Safari to the Maasai Mara. In a rugged bush truck, we explored the savanna looking for wild game.
Now, we are retired and living in SE Arizona.
Life has been good. We are happy and well.
