Patsy writes and illustrates stories filled with emotional truths, imagination, humor, absurdity, sorrow, beauty, and the stubborn endurance of the human spirit. Raised in a large English-Irish Appalachian Mountain family, she learned early that life is rarely tidy, fair, or easily repaired. Her work carries compelling truths of hardship, survival, humor, aging, loneliness, and oddities.

Her more than 50 books in different genres- both fiction and non fiction-build bridges between whimsy and reality, where magic exists and grows beside grief, where old people still dream of romance, where wounded souls find comfort, and where humor sometimes arrives wearing muddy boots instead of polished shoes. Some readers call it “black Irish humor.” Others simply recognize life in it.

A lifelong reader, thinker, artist, and observer of human nature, she spent many years studying spirituality, symbolism, imagination, healing, and the hidden emotional landscapes people carry within themselves through her therapy practice. Though deeply private and somewhat hermit-like by nature, her steady sense of humor comes through in all of her books. You will find it lurking in in odd corners and crevices. She continues writing books for all age readers-children through Silver-agers- and creating artwork reflecting both the homorous, amazing grace and beauty and the ridiculous, tender absurdity of being a human.
