David Hendin

David Hendin is first vice president and honorary curator of the American Numismatic Society. He is author of Guide to Biblical Coins (2022--6th edition), Cultural Change: Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Coins of the Holy Land (2011), Ancient Scale Weights and Pre-coinage Currency of the Near East (2007), Not Kosher: Forgeries of Ancient Jewish and Biblical Coins (2005) and 12 other books including the national bestseller Death as A Fact of Life (1973). Hendin is author of more than 75 articles for scholarly journals and book chapters, as well as thousands of articles for magazines and newspapers. He was chief numismatist at the Joint Sepphoris Project (Duke/Hebrew U 1985/86,2011). In 2022 Hendin received the American Numismatic Society Trustees Medal as well as the Burnett Anderson Award for Excellence in Numismatic Writing from the ANS and the Numismatic Literary Guild. In 2013 he received the Gunnar Holst Numismatic Foundation Medal of the Swedish Numismatic Society at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has also been honored by the Numismatic Literary Guild, the American Numismatic Association Presidential Award, and many other honors. In addition to numismatics, Hendin had a long, successful career as an award-winning syndicated newspaper journalist, publishing executive, and literary agent for a few talented creators, including Charles M. Schulz (PEANUTS), Lincoln Peirce (BIG NATE), and Judith Martin (MISS MANNERS).

Hendin is married to Genevieve (Jeannie Luciano) Hendin, retired vice-chair and publishing director of W.W. Norton Inc. Publishers.
