Nicole was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised by loving American-Sicilian parents and received her formal education in the city of her birth. Her long and successful career included raising four children, operating her own family restaurant in Southern California and during the later years she was hired as a buyer for a major organization. She is now retired and living in the San Diego area of California. Her book, MADE in SICILY was a long journey back into her own life; a touching story about growing up in a America-Sicilian family in Bensonhurst, a neighborhood of Brooklyn during the 1950's. It describes her loving parents, the time before her birth, her delightfully happy childhood, and follows the rhythm of her life as she comes of age, survives adolescence with a loving but overly protective father, then meets and marries the man of her dreams. She recounts her unspeakable grief when he becomes ill, the anguish after his death, her sorrow during transition and her strength of mind after his passing. Nicole is endowed with a genuine pride in her Sicilian heritage, and in a language that crosses all borders, from the smoky shadows of her memories, she journeyed back to recapture what had vanished with time and found the words to sing out her life.
This autobiography was 8 years in the making and recalls memories joyous and funny, yet also painful and agonizing. However, the many sleepless nights spent wrapped in these memories were not in vain. My book has been published, and the positive reviews I've received on Amazon.com, the San Diego's House of Italy in San Diego, CA, and through the Italian Tribune in New Jersey, the time invested in writing has been worth the effort.
