Sally Carpenter

I'm a native Hoosier living in Southern California. I write cozy mysteries for adults (suitable for teens too). While was working on a master's degree in theater at Indiana State University, two plays were regional finalists in the American College Theater Festival's one-act play competition. One play, "Star Collector," was produced in NYC, and the characters became the basis for my first books. The one-act play "Common Ground" won a college writing award.

My Sandy Fairfax Teen Idol series has six books. "The Baffled Beatlemaniac Caper" was a 2012 Eureka! Award finalist for best first mystery novel. The revised second edition was published in 2018.

My other retro-cozy series, The Psychedelic Spy mysteries, is set in 1967 in Yuletide, Indiana. Far out! "Flower Power Fatality" and "Hippie Haven Homicide" follow the adventures of actress and intrepid amateur spy Noelle McNabb with the groovy agent Destiny King.

My short stories: "Faster than a Speeding Bullet" in "Plan B: Omnibus"; "Dark Nights at the Deluxe Drive-In" in "Last Exit to Murder"; and "The Puzzling Puppet Show Caper" (a Sandy Fairfax mystery) in "Cozy Cat Shorts."

I also have a black belt in tae kwon do and a Master of Divinity. Past jobs: actress, jail chaplain, college writing instructor, tour guide/page for a motion picture studio and newspaper columnist. I work at a public library, and I'm a cat mom.
