Jeff Hao

Jeff first touched a keyboard (a toy he bought for his children) at the age of 40. He quickly identified the biggest hurdle for most people to enjoy piano playing - the difficulty to learn and read music notation in its existing form.

He subsequently designed a "translated" notation system based on the pattern of the black and white keys and went on to obtain patent in the US (Patent No. 7,439,438) and around the world. It is claimed that the Hao Staff (with reference to the traditional Grand Staff) is intuitively and instantly readable by anyone.

"Hao Staff piano notation is the one-step and ultimate solution to the historical problem of reading difficulties for late starters. It is also a useful and effective tool to help establish and improve the ability to read the traditional standard Grand Staff notation." - haostaff.com

Jeff told his story in a TEDx Talk in 2016. It can be watched on YouTube https://youtu.be/REBAIF327b4

Jeff has enjoyed piano learning and playing for 15 years. He also took piano lessons and masterclasses from renowned concert pianists such as Ernest So (Julliard) and Ivan Yanakov (Mannes).

He set up a chain of piano schools in Shanghai in 2018 and has been teaching students and training teachers since. He also gives online lessons to international students.
