James F. Crounse has been immersed in the marine industry since 1998, including a decade owning and managing a year-round boat rental business on the Intracoastal Waterway in Brevard County, Florida. Over the course of 23 years, and more than 5,000 rentals and charters of various types of powerboats, he developed the skills and gained the expertise that he shares and conveys in his 2nd Edition of BOATING SAVVY: What Knot To Do™ - Often-overlooked & Lesser-known Keys To Safe & Smart Power Boating.

Within his first year in business, he had realized that a disturbingly high percentage of self-proclaimed boaters are blissfully unaware of "boatloads" of vital safety precautions and guidelines, and that the mere status of boat ownership in no way guarantees that one will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to be a good and safe boater. Having dealt with the repercussions of too many easily-preventable, common sense-defying boating mistakes and mishaps, he set out to do all he could to ensure that his customers would head out on the water as well-prepared as possible, by originating and implementing improved, mandatory boating orientation and safety programs. His passionate commitment toward boating safety - along with his vast experience in the field - eventually lead to the success of his writing on the subject of his expertise: safe and smart boating.
