Ann McMan

ANN McMAN is the author of fifteen novels and two short story collections. A two-time Lambda Literary Award winner, she has also received multiple Independent Publisher (IPPY) Awards, Foreword INDIES medals, and Golden Crown Literary Society Goldie Awards. A laureate of the Alice B. Foundation for her distinguished body of work and a member of the Saints+Sinners Literary Festival Hall of Fame, she divides her time between Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Grand Isle, Vermont.

Ann McMan’s work explores enduring human concerns: love, trust, identity, and the quiet turbulence of self-doubt. Her fiction is grounded in emotional authenticity and a clear-eyed devotion to sincerity, while gently exposing affectation, pretension, and cruelty with sharp precision.

Her novels extend far beyond the surface of romance or domestic life, building expansive worlds that feel both intimate and resonant. With wit, intelligence, and a confident narrative voice, she never speaks down to her readers, instead trusting them to meet her work with equal complexity and heart.

McMan does not shy away from depicting cruelty, exploitation, or deep emotional suffering, yet she is unflinching in her rejection of emotional dishonesty. Characters who perform false versions of themselves are often revealed through their own contradictions, their facades gradually collapsing under the weight of their words and choices. Through these intimate and often humorous domestic landscapes, she reflects larger truths about human behavior, inviting readers to recognize themselves within the contours of her fiction.
