Beth A. Rich

Beth A. Rich has taught medical coding for over a decade and is a certified professional coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders. She has over 20 years of broad-based healthcare experience working for numerous healthcare providers, a consulting firm, and a national insurance company in the fields of medical coding and billing, patient registration, and customer service.

Medical Coding: A Journey has a conversational style that speaks directly to students to enable them to learn medical coding for various specialties in language that is easy to understand. Students can feel as though they are in the classroom with an instructor as they read through the material. Ms. Rich states, "I wrote this book to help students stay interested as they learn coding, incorporating interesting healthcare facts, Medicare website activities, workplace scenario exercises, and plenty of coding practice." The textbook prepares students to work in the medical coding field, whether they need to learn coding as part of their jobs or want to pursue a full time coding career.

Ms. Rich has a B.S. degree in writing and is the lead coding instructor at Pittsburgh Technical Institute where she was nominated for the Excellence in Education and the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA) teaching awards.
