I am drawn to challenging writing projects, and my Lake Chelan book was the most challenging so far. The lake is amazing, of course, but how do you make a book about a lake exciting, entertaining, and fun? The answer: You have a lot of help. You talk to a lot of people and find great stories. Next, you have a fantastic group of editors help you put it together in a page turning way. Then, when it's done, you hope people find it as funny and fascinating as you dreamed it could be.
For me, the most gratifying part of the process is getting feedback from people. One very common comment I've received from readers is that their spouse has asked them to leave the room, because they keep laughing out loud, making it impossible to sleep. This is what I hoped for when I conceived of the book. With such an extraordinary lake, such a wonderful cast of characters, and such a great group of collaborators on the project, the book was not as challenging as I thought it might be. It was a joy to write.
So, how do you make a book about a lake exciting, entertaining, and fun? Please buy the book and find out. Then, when you've read it, shoot me an email and tell me what you think. Hearing from readers is my favorite part.
