Robert Bryndza is a British-born, internationally bestselling author of crime thrillers. His first crime novel, The Girl in the Ice (2016), introduced Detective Chief Inspector Erika Foster. It sold more than a million copies in five months, reached #1 on Amazon in the UK, USA and Australia, and has since sold over two million copies in English and been translated into 32 languages.
The Girl in the Ice was nominated for the 2016 Goodreads Choice Award for Mystery & Thriller and the 2018 Grand Prix des Lectrices de Elle in France. It won the reader-voted Dead Good Papercut Award for Best Page Turner at the 2016 Harrogate Crime Festival and the 2018 Thrillzone Award for Best Debut Thriller in the Netherlands. Eight more international bestsellers followed in the Erika Foster series: The Night Stalker, Dark Water, Last Breath, Cold Blood, Deadly Secrets, Fatal Witness, Lethal Vengeance and Chasing Shadows. In 2019, Robert launched his Kate Marshall series, featuring a former police officer turned private detective. Its first book, Nine Elms, reached #1 on Amazon US and the top five in the UK. The series continued with Shadow Sands, Darkness Falls, Devil’s Way and The Lost Victim, and has been published in 18 languages. Robert has recently launched a new historical crime thriller series featuring Detective Jamie Day, beginning with The Quiet Kill, set in 1980s London.
Robert’s standalone thriller Fear the Silence became a global bestseller and won the Czech Bestseller of the Year award. Its Dutch edition was nominated for the Netherlands’ De Gouden Vleermuis (Golden Bat) award, alongside his Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series, in recognition of his body of work in crime fiction. Before turning to crime, Robert self-published his romantic comedy series featuring Coco Pinchard.
Born in Lowestoft, England, Robert studied at Aberystwyth University and trained at the Guildford School of Acting. He worked as an actor for several years before a play he wrote for the Edinburgh Festival inspired him to pursue writing full-time. Now based in Slovakia with his husband Ján, Robert has sold over seven million books across genres.
As devoted dog lovers, Robert and Ján share their home with a couple of beloved canine companions. Robert is happiest when he’s cosy in his office, a steaming mug of coffee at hand, writing his next thriller with his furry friends curled up nearby.
