SERVE ME, by Amy B. Katz

I am done

with hiding

like the ground hog

who has to wait

365 yo-yo throws of the moon

to have his day

in the sun.

I am done

with wearing

the Emperor's New Clothes

when my own birthday suit

fits like a glove.

I am done with cliches (almost)

with masks and titles worn

like suits of armor;

I am done with subterfuge and tall tales:

all those lies we tell others

to deceive ourselves.

I am done

being anything

but a golden eagle,

a pterodactyl

or a fractal representing

the Cosmos.

And I am so well done

pretending my love

is small like an ant

when it is in fact

a herd of stampeding elephants.

I am done cooking

and ready to be served

to the Gods.
