Matthew Crampton

Matthew Crampton is a writer, storyteller and folk singer who lives in London. He tours a words-and-music show based on his book Human Cargo: stories and songs of emigration, slavery and transportation. His live version of The Little Prince is popular.

In 2017 he won Five Stars from the Guardian for his co-adaptation of The Transports, a famous series of folk ballads about 18th century convicts transported to Australia; he's twice toured this show with a company of leading folk musicians, and in 2018 released The Transports album.

Matthew's previous books include The Trebor Story (a history of the sweet firm) and Tales from the Angler’s Retreat (stories about trout fishing on the Hebridean island of South Uist). Matthew's publishing company Muddler Books also reprints new editions of gems such as Seventy Years a Showman by 'Lord' George Sanger and George Orwell's Animal Farm. muddlerbooks.com
