Wm. Hovey Smith

As a Professional Geologist and Outdoor Writer, I have had the opportunity to live and hunt over most of North America. I was always interested in outdoor writing and sold my first articles in the 1970s and have continued with newspaper, magazine and book writing ever since. I have done beat reporting for regional newspapers, been published in more than 80 different publications and now have produced 20 books and most recently have written my first novel, "Until Death Do You Part: An American Family Meets Their Sicilian Cousins," which led to a screenplay and movie project under the title of "Blood Ties," which is now being represented by my Agent, Calvin Frost.

I am taken by the unusual and try to work what I see as the under-served portions of the market. This was the case with "Practical Bowfishing," "Crossbow Hunting," and "Backyard Deer Hunting: Converting deer to dinner for pennies per pound" and "X-Treme Muzzleloading: Fur, Fowl and Dangerous Game with Muzzleloading Rifles, Pistols and Smoothbores." All of these titles are now also available as E-books for all popular readers. New in 2013 was a series of eight "Muzzle Short Shot Books" which are "Muzzleloaders for Hunters," "Shooting and Maintaining your Muzzleloader," "Buying Used Muzzleloading Guns," "Hunting with Muzzleloading Shotguns and Smoothbore Muskets," "Hunting with Muzzleloading Pistols," "Hunting with Muzzleloading Revolvers," "Muzzleloading Guns for Self Defense," and "Building/Restoring Your Muzzleloader." As of 2021 seven of the eight titles have been published.

I have also started a series of business books including "Ideas for New Businesses," "Create Your Own Job Security," and joining them late 2020, "Make Your Own Job: Anytime, Anywhere, At Any Age." These books show how to generate your own business concepts, evaluate them, and act on them to start new businesses as you need them to accomplish your immediate objectives and plan for the future. Not only this, the book also goes step by step the stages you need to go through to start a business.

One useful adjunct to my books are my blogs and 900 YouTube videos which I use to provide additional information about the topics covered in my books. In any of my publications you are apt to find some hardware-related information, some interesting stories, practical information on game processing and cooking instructions - all told from first-hand experiences. If I have not done the deed, I am giving you the words straight from the mouths of those who have.

Two radio shows "The Backyard Sportsman" and "Hovey's Outdoor Adventures" were produced from 2010-2013. Both are hunting related with "Adventures" being more of an entertainment show done in voice and character/s. Episodes are currently available on Apple iTunes with free downloads. One of these shows "My Home Town" about Sandersville, Georgia, is available as a CD from my website www.hoveysmith.com.
