Nancy Canyon

Nancy Canyon, artist/author, was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Spokane, Washington. She moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1986 and attended art school in Poulsbo, WA. In 2005, she migrated from the Kitsap Peninsula to Bellingham, Washington. She has been painting, writing, and teaching in Bellingham ever since. She lives near Lake Whatcom with her artist partner, and her dog.

Nancy holds the MFA in Creative Writing from Pacific Lutheran University and a Certificate in Fiction Writing from University of Washington. Her prose and poetry is published in Sing the Salmon Home, The Madrona Project, Yowl & Purr, Last Call, Three Hearts, Raven Chronicles, True Stories II-IV, Memory into Memoir, Songs of Ourselves, Adanna Literary Journal, Clover: A Literary Rag, Able Muse, Water~Stone Review, Noisy Waters, Floating Bridge Review, Into the Teeth of the Wind, Poetry South, Main Street Rag, Obliquity, Spirit First, Sue C Boynton Poetry Contest Anthology, and more. She is a lover of nature and a close observer of people, animals, and place--which results in her detailed settings and believable characters found in stories, books, and poems.

Ms. Canyon is a creative writing instructor for Whatcom Community College and a writing coach for The Narrative Project. She rents a vintage art studio in historic Fairhaven, Bellingham, WA, where she paints and writes. Her recent book, "Women's Bodies, Women's Words," is written and edited by the group, Wildhaven Writers, and published by Canyonwriter Press. Nancy's novel, "Celia's Heaven" is published by Penchant Press International. Books are available from Village Books in Historic Fairhaven. Her memoir, "Struck," was a finalist in Chanticleer Review's Journey Contest and is available in 2024.
