Lisa Pell

An award-winning author, former journalist, and professional survivor with a sense of humor and humility, Lisa has spent most of her career in the communications business, covering everything from rock concerts, murder trials, and political campaigns, to worm races and the progress of federal government contracts in Washington, D.C. – with the speed of some of those subjects sometimes appearing about the same.

Currently, Lisa is finishing The Savory Survivors's Cookbook. It's a way forward from diabetic coma, breast cancer, and migraine. Lisa has been there and hopes to share information to help others learn from her experiences. Find joy with low sugar/carb, and low salt recipes! She is also researching a historical novel, Appalachian Royalty: Tales of Tragedy, Love, and Perseverance.

Lisa’s critically acclaimed first novel, Who’s Your Daddy, Baby?, (Aberdeen Bay, 2012), was selected as a Southern Writers Magazine “Must Reads” for March/April 2013, as well as an award from the Virginia Federation of Press Women. Her novel Dystortions: 100 Hues of Purple (Black Rose Writing, 2016) received five star ratings and was described by Kirkus Reviews as “enormously fun to read.” Foreword called it "a thought-provoking science fiction novel full of mystery and excitement." Dystortions is a quirky sci-fi series set in a parallel universe with just enough wacked-out science to make it believable.

Born in North Carolina, Lisa was raised in Virginia, is a graduate of George Mason University, and attended Harvard Business School. Her storied career stretches from college stints as a waitress at a seafood house and White House intern, to life on the road observing people and places as a journalist, and then communications consulting and project management. Lisa’s consulting stints have included work with a broad range of organizations: from car companies, hamburger joints, internet start-ups, and a traveling museum, to several federal government offices. Throw in a few non-profits and a presidential campaign for a cartoon character board game for good measure. Lisa is a member of an eclectic group of organizations, including the National Press Club, the National Federation of Press Women, Virginia Professional Communicators, Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Project Management Institute.

With strong roots in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia, Lisa has lived in Tennessee and West Virginia, where she regularly covered news events in nearby Kentucky and southern Ohio. Connoisseurs of well-told stories, rock ‘n’ roll music, impressionist art, golf, oysters, and fun people, Lisa and her husband, the self-styled Agent Provocateur, JonRe Pell, live in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.
