Updated Author Profile (2026 version)

Nigel C. Williams (also writing as Russ Geraghty and N.C. Williams) is a Welsh author, artist, and lecturer born in Abercrave in the Swansea Valley, South Wales.

In 1981 he joined the Metropolitan Police, serving in Brixton before transferring to South Wales Police in 1984. During his fourteen-year service he worked as a traffic officer and as an armed V.I.P. and Special Escort Group driver, supporting major operations and Royal visits across Wales. His police career ended prematurely in 1994 after he was seriously injured by a stolen vehicle, fracturing his spine. He was medically retired and received seven commendations for his service.

During his recovery he returned to education, gaining a First-Class Honours degree in Fine Art, followed by a teaching qualification from Cardiff University and a Master’s degree in Fine Art. He went on to build a long career in education and is now a Fine Art lecturer in further education, where he continues to teach, paint, and support the development of young artists.

Nigel began writing novels in 2010. His debut thriller Eden Relics became an Amazon Top 10 Action and Adventure title. He followed this with Welsh Gold and the dark comedy thriller Fake Baked.

He later co-wrote No Step Back with Alan Lloyd MBE, followed by two Frank Dix sequels (SX63 – A Hard Place and SX64 – A Cold Place).

Working with retired detective Arthur Cole, Nigel co-created the popular Terry McGuire crime thriller series, originally published by Wordcatcher Publishing. The series includes:

Unethical Conduct

Edge of Integrity

Death and Depravity

Angel of Death

Nest of Vipers

Nighthawkers

Redemption

Betrayal

The series is currently being refreshed and republished for a new generation of readers.

Under the name Russ Geraghty he has also written darker and supernatural thrillers including Dead Legacy, and continues to develop new crime and suspense novels drawing on nearly fifty years of combined policing experience between himself and his co-author.

Alongside his crime writing, Nigel also writes educational books for art teachers and continues to exhibit his own artwork. His work has appeared in national exhibitions including the Royal Cambrian Academy and is held in both public and private collections.

Outside writing and painting he enjoys rugby, reading, and spending time with his family. He is married to Caroline, a primary school teacher, and is a proud father and grandfather.
