Roger Coleman

Roger Coleman, a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) pastor, served for many years as director of several organizations in Kansas City, Missouri including Westport Cooperative Services (1973-1980), the Westport Allen Center (1980-1999) and the Pilgrim Center (1999-2015). In 2015, Dr. Coleman and his wife Elizabeth, also an ordained minister, retired to Edenton, NC. In the past few years, he has served as director of the Edenton Chowan Food Pantry and is currently a member of the Edenton Town Council..

Dr. Coleman attended Bethany College (B.A.), Texas Christian University (M. Div.) and the University of Missouri (M. Ed.) He holds a D. Min. degree in theology and community development from St. Paul School of Theology. In 1983, he was awarded an honorary D.D. degree by the Missouri School of Religion in recognition of his community involvement.

In addition to Prankster of God, Roger has written three other books - The Pope and the Snowman, A Year of Sundays and Of Stones and Feathers. Numerous recordings of his works have also been made including "Danny Cox's Troost Avenue Blues," a three-part blues song about the symbolic streets that divide communities into the haves and the have-nots.

Most recently, Dr. Coleman has edited a two-volume set of short-stories by his father-in-law, Eustace Cockrell. Cockrell was a pioneer television writer responsible for many of the early westerns including "Have Gun, Will Travel" and "Gunsmoke" as well as classics like "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and the "Loretta Young Show." Prior to his Hollywood career, however, Cokrell was a prolific contributor to pulp fiction magazines like Argosy and Blue Book in addition to "slicks" like Colliers, Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan.
