Jason Hunt

Jason Hunt is perhaps better known as a songwriter than a novelist. He moved to Nashville after college and worked writing Country Music, Blues, and Americana. Soon after he arrived in Music City, he caught the ear of two of his favorite songwriters, John Prine and Guy Clark, who introduced him to various music publishers and other writers. Hunt has performed with Prine and recorded a tongue-in-cheek tribute called “John Prine Ain’t Got Nothin’ on Me” – on which Prine himself sang harmony. Hunt has written hundreds of songs and has performed both solo and with several bands across the United States and in Europe.

After ten years in the music industry, Hunt shifted his focus to writing fiction. He has published dozens of short stories in hardboiled detective and crime publications like Hardboiled, Pulp Pusher, Plots with Guns, Beat to a Pulp, A Twist of Noir, and Yellow Mama. In addition, he has been mentioned on multiple occasions in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. Hunt has written two novels featuring Deke Rivers, a Nashville songwriter turned private detective – COLD, COLD HEART and SO LONESOME I COULD DIE – as well as a Western set in Shakespeare, New Mexico, at the end of the 19th century, called A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S GUNFIGHT.

Born and raised just outside of New Haven, Connecticut, Hunt attended Cornell University, where he studied writing with William Kennedy, the Pulitzer-prize-winning author of IRONWEED. He completed a Masters in English at the University of Connecticut, and has taught writing at UConn, Middle Tennessee State University, and Tennessee State University.
