J. R. Simons

J. R. Simons is an experienced stage director with expertise in all aspects of theatrical production including lighting design and execution, scenic design and construction, house management, production budgeting and theatre education. J. R. currently manages a large high school performing arts center and previously taught English Composition, Playwriting, Theatre Appreciation, and Dramatic Literature for Lorain County Community College and Lakeland Community College in Ohio. In his spare time, J. R. is the Technical Director for the Elyria (Ohio) High School Drama Club and owns and operates an acting and company called The Jovialities Entertainment Company, Ltd., which performs live, interactive, improvisational murder mysteries.

He received his BFA and MA in Theatre from Kent State University and his MFA from Ashland University’s Creative Writing program. J. R. has directed over 50 theatrical productions, acted in over 25 and been involved in some technical aspect of over 100 since 1980.

J. R. has been married to his wonderful wife, Kim, since 1990. They met while J. R. was directing a production of Grease in 1987 and have been together ever since. They are the proud parents of three children and the proud owners of several pets.
