Lucky to be born and raised in Rhode Island, I now tout the state with books, trivia games, and presentations -- all about Rhode Island's firsts, bests, & uniques. I am a community-college English professor and love to show off Rhode Island to both its citizens and to people in other states. I give presentations around America and for national and state conferences. The presentations are well received because of the gorgeous pictures, the "wow" information, and the touch of home-spun humor. My community service is dedicated to historic armories (principally the Westerly Armory) and the United States Military. One of my favorite awards is the Education & Advocacy Award from the State Preservation Commission -- for bringing forth armories into the realm of preservation. Armories had not been noticed before, and now they are. I am pleased by that.
