About the Author — Michael Neiger mneiger@hotmail.com is a wilderness guide who's organized 100s of backpacking, canoeing, canyoneering, caving, and winter-camping trips, expeditions, and SAR operations in Michigan and Canada since 1984. He has paddled solo from the Lake Superior area to the Arctic Ocean, and skied solo from the northernmost plowed road in Ontario, Canada to lower Hudson Bay on the Arctic Ocean.

A 26-year veteran detective with the Michigan State Police, he's currently the lead investigator with Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue (MibSAR) — www.MibSAR.com — a Long Range Special Operations Group (SOG) that assists families and law enforcement agencies with long-term missing-person cases and cold-case homicide investigations in the remote bush between the Great Lakes in Michigan and the Arctic Ocean in Canada.

Michael spends upwards of 100 nights in the bush annually, and he enjoys long-distance running and swimming. When he's not in the bush, he resides in Marquette, Michigan, along the south shore of Lake Superior. — www.ExtremeTrailMaps.com

"Seek not the wilderness trip of a lifetime, but a lifetime of wilderness tripping." — Michael's credo
