Carlo Barbieri

Carlo Barbieri is a writer who has successfully worked across different genres: from crime novels for adults, first published by well-known imprints such as Noir Italia by Il Sole 24 Ore and Impronte by Todaro, based in Lugano, to books for younger readers published in Giunti’s Storie Infinite and Einaudi Ragazzi’s Storie e Rime, as well as humorous literature and more.

He became known for the thriller series featuring Commissioner Francesco Mancuso of the Palermo Homicide Squad, which includes La pietra al collo, Il morto con la zebiba, Il marchio sulle labbra and Assassinio alla Targa Florio; he has also demonstrated his versatility with humorous collections including Pilipintò, Siculo babbìo and Uno sì e uno no, and above all with his writing for younger readers, publishing Sei misteri per Camilla with Giunti Editore and, with Einaudi Ragazzi, the nine books in the series that began with Dieci piccoli gialli, as well as the adventure novel Pino Tanuso e l’incredibile SuperBike Ali-N. Some of these works have been translated into Chinese and Turkish, and major educational publishers have included excerpts from them in language textbooks for primary schools.

It is difficult to say in which field Barbieri is most appreciated: the books in the Commissioner Mancuso series have reached their third or fourth edition and “run the risk” of becoming a TV series; as for the Piccoli Gialli, filming is scheduled to begin in September 2026. Moreover, both his crime novels and stories for adults and his books for children have received recognition at prominent events such as Giallo Garda, Scerbanenco@Lignano, Metropoli di Torino, Città di Sassari, and others.
