Paula Doyle

Despite being born in Massachusetts , Paula was raised in Brazil, the daughter of Methodist missionary teachers. Her mother Beverly Warner Walter taught her how to use a sewing machine at the age of nine, and she made her first patchwork cushion at the age of ten under instruction from her maternal grandmother Gertrude Warner. After a career in banking in California Paula moved to London in 1987 and married Mark Doyle. During a subsequent seven-year overseas posting to the United States and Canada quilting became a passion for Paula after making her first sampler quilt in a class at La Maison de Calico, a quilt shop in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, in 1991. Paula and Mark then moved to Connecticut, where she started to teach patchwork and quilting classes at the local YWCA, at the local quilt guild, and even to a group of nuns in a monastery.Returning to England in 1995, Paula opened her Green Mountain Quilt Shop, where she continued to teach quilting classes and started designing her own quilts and quilt patterns. After thirteen years in business, the shop closed in 2008 when Paula decided to concentrate on designing quilts and quilt patterns in her home garden studio, with an emphasis on simplifying techniques to make complex looking quilts which are easy and fun for all levels of quilters. Paula is the author of the book MINI MOSAIC QUILTS , which was published by C & T Publishing in October 2012. She has also published many of her patterns in quilt magazines. In 2014 Paula brought together a group of local quilters ( Magna Carta Quilt Association) to make the Magna Carta Quilts, which were made to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta at nearby Runnymede. The quilts were finished and exhibited at The Great Charter Festival at Royal Holloway University of London in June 2015. After being exhibited at Royal Holloway the Magna Carta Quilts were on display at Guildford Cathedral before travelling to the US to be exhibited in Houston and Chicago. Since finishing the Magna Carta Quilts Paula continues to design and make quilts in her Green Mountain Quilt Studio. Her newest book, Easy Stack Quilts will be published by C & T in 2018.
