Vicki Ward is the editor of Life's Spices from Seasoned Sistahs, an anthology Black Issues Book Review tagged as "a book peppered with candor, dabbed with sassiness and covered with wisdom gained from living...supplying readers glimpses into other cultures plus advice." This popular book has been an assigned text in California Women's Studies courses for over six years. It was awarded the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award, Bronze Award from the Independent Publishers, and Best Anthology from The Los Angeles Black Book Expo. It is archived in the permanent collection of the African American Museum and Library in Oakland, California.
Her early publishing credits were as an entertainment writer for Roots Magazine, a San Francisco Bay Area Regional entertainment magazine. She wrote reviews for R & B entertainers, such as Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, and Freddie Jackson, among others, interviewed celebrities, and published reviews of stage plays and new CD Releases.
She focused her writing on a female audience examining the many life changes women experience, from emerging young women to maturing women into their 80s and above. Through these books she seeks to nurture honest ongoing dialog among women, strengthen bonds, and provide tools and guidance allowing them to live more empowered lives.
Vicki published Savvy, Sassy & Bold after 50, A Midlife Rebirth in 2010 as a resource to women seeking new challenges at mid life. This book won two awards, an Honorable Mention--Northern California Publishers and Authors and Best Women's Self Help Book- Bay Area Independent Publishers and Authors. This has proven to be a vital handbook for women navigating a time of life filled with physical changes, new insights, and new life choices.
More of Life's Spices, Seasoned Sistahs Keepin' It Real, and the 2nd volume in the immensely popular anthology series was released in May 2013, again showcasing the voices of women of color, and continuing to lift up and celebrate the sistahhood of all women. This 2nd volume of stories from seasoned women won the Foreword Magazine Honorable Mention Award in Women's Studies.
Vicki is a noted speaker and workshop presenter, and has conducted women's empowerment workshops at St. Mary's College Women's Conference, East County Women's Conference, and the Empowering Women of Color Conferences at U. C. Berkeley, spoken to college, and high school students, presented at middle school career fairs, and more.
