My name is Ray Kitching although I use ‘R P Kitching’ for publishing purposes as the use of initials seems to have aided many successful writers (I’m prepared to try almost anything!). I am of indeterminate age although being married with two daughters, two grandsons and three great-grandchilren sort of gives the game away.
I have been writing seriously for about ten years, having played with it a little half-heartedly most of my adult life and have completed 5 novels. In common with most others virgin writers, I have done the soul-destroying rounds of Publishers and Literary Agents with zero success. (We invariably blame these people for lack of interest, never even considering that our work may just be not up to snuff – well I do, anyway). However, the industry reaction hasn't dampened my enthusiasm. I finally found Kindle as another avenue to explore. Time, as they say, will tell.
I began writing by trying to be serious but everytime I got started, humour crept in, no doubt inspired by my idol, P.G. (note the intials again!!) Wodehouse, although I wouldn’t be so arrogant as to suggest that I can hold a candle to his genius.
I absolutely love the actual process of writing and polishing, finding the the exact right word or phrase, but have to admit that I struggle with plot. Consequently, most of my novels comprise a series of cameo situations connected, sometimes a little tenuously, with a plot.
I'm guessing that my market will tend to be the more mature reader. The humour is gentle on the whole and there's no overt sex, foul language or extreme violence, which, no doubt, limits my potential audience
