Shawn Oetzel, author of speculative fiction, urban fantasy novels, DYING MOON and THE AGENCY was born and raised in Central Illinois where he still lives with his wife, three kids, and their frustratingly lovable pet pooches, Hemingway Molly.
Shawn learned to read at an early age. While his peers were still seeing Dick, Jane, and Spot run, Shawn was devouring bestsellers and adult fiction at an alarming rate. This of course led to his deep affinity for all things literary which in actuality is now more akin to a full-blown addiction. at the urging of his family Shawn began writing his own tales and the rest is, as they say - history...
Shawn's debut novel, DYING MOON was published by Lachesis Publishing's imprint LBF Books in May of 2009, and will. This was followed by THE AGENCY released from Belfire Press in August 2012. Short stories of Shawn's have appeared in The Writer’s Post Journal, Universe Pathway, Static Movement, Demon Minds, SNM Horror Magazine, Ligature Marks: Fiction & Film, and The Horror Zine. Shawn had short stories included in The Horror Express’ anthology as well as in Twice the Terror: The Horror Zine, Volume 2 anthology. Shawn's short story, FAITH AND A HAMMER earned an Honorable Mention from The National Fantasy Fan Federation’s annual writing contest in 2005, and is currently available through Smashwords.com. Movie, book, and DVD reviews Shawn has written have appeared in Fractal Matter, Static Multimedia, Ascent Aspirations Magazine, The Writer’s Post Journal, Tales of the Talisman, and Shroud Magazine. An article of Shawn's recently was featured on Sports Illustrated’s website, www.si.com.
When not working or writing his next project, Shawn can be found attending his children's many extracurricular activities or tucked away upstairs at his home in his favorite corner losing himself in the pages of yet another good book. Shawn is also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan who longs for the glorious day he will be able to see his beloved Cubbies play in a World Series.
Shawn is currently working towards getting his newest completed novel published and wishes for the day he can write fulltime. Shawn has always dreamed of being a superhero, knight, or a writer. He is ecstatic that he has made good on at least one of those endeavors.
