Martell Lee Teasley

MARTELL L. TEASLEY is Professor and Chair of the Department of Social Work in the College of Public Policy at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is the former Chair of the Social Work and Disaster Recovery Program at Florida State University College of Social Work. He served in the U.S. Army from 10 years and participated in the First Persian Gulf War as a Licensed Practical Nurse. As a Howard University graduate, his primary research interest includes African American adolescent development, cultural diversity, social welfare policy and Black Studies. He is nationally known for his work and research with school-aged children and youth. He was nominated and received the 2011 Gary Lee Shaffer Award for Academic Contributions to the Field of School Social Work from the School Social Work Association of America. He has served on the editorial board of several major social work journals and currently serves on the editorial board of the journal Children & Schools. Martell Teasley is the editor and co-author of two books to include Nation of Coward: Black Activism in Barack Obama’s Post Racial America with lead author, David Ikard. He is currently working on his next book titled Black to the Future. He has presented professional papers at international and national meetings, conferences, and symposiums on a variety of topics, and has written widely in peer review journals and books.
