Ray Hawkins

From hammer and chisel to pen and computer, from labourer to Christian ministry, from reading authors to becoming one, that’s Ray Hawkins. I went to the Australian Churches of Christ (NSW) Bible College and in my final year two special things happened. I was elected Student President and I met my future wife, Mary. (She became a multi-published author long before I even thought about writing).

Together we were involved in establishing three new churches, went on three short term mission trips to Africa in our senior years and had a ministry in England. I have been Conference President of New South Wales (Australia) Churches of Christ, twice and President of the NSW Churches of Christ Ministers’ Association. Since retiring to Tasmania I've been involved in my son and daughter-in-law's Seahorse World tourist business as well as assisting them in establishing a Baptist Fellowship at Beauty Point.

In Rotary I was President of the Tenambit/Morpeth club and received the ‘Paul Harris Fellow’ award. In retirement I've been involved with Probus in Beauty Point and was recently President of the club.

Mary and I have three children and six grand-children. For our 50th wedding anniversary I had printed 'We Love Because...' a series of poems I wrote about our life together.

My first effort to write devotionals was when Upper Room accepted ones I sent. Then I wrote 'Neurotic Rooster' a 31 day devotional on our experiences in Africa . As I love preaching and teaching about issues highlighted in the Bible it led me to write my themed 31 Day Devotional series. These include topics such as Children, Marriage, The Cross and Christmas. My recent titles are Dynamic Ageing (What the bible says about it and how we are never too old to worship God or be blessed by Him) , Signposts to Happiness (31 different insights to the Bible's use of 'Blessed!) and The Warrior Lord's Sword (The Bible's self-disclosure about how it sees itself).
