Peter Brian Barry

I am Professor of Philosophy at Saginaw Valley State University where I am the Finkbeiner Endowed Professor in Ethics. After earning a Master's Degree at both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Bowling Green State University, I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Florida.

My research is primarily in ethics, broadly construed, and I have a special interest in moral psychology as well as applied ethics, philosophy of law, and social and political philosophy. Much of my published work is on the topic of evil and attempts to understand what evil people are like and how they differ from the rest of us. I have written two books in an attempt to sort these matters out. My most recent book is an attempt to use philosophy to make better sense of the thought of George Orwell.

A have a series of philosophy tattoos--two inspired by Descartes, one by Spinoza--and I might let you see them if you ask. My sanity is largely preserved by my wife, Felicia, with whom I care for rather too many cats.
