Joan Riley

I was born in Manchester, England, to (Albert) Arthur and Alice Bond.

My book The Age of Innocence by Joan Riley is a young girl's account of events in her family during and just after the war.

June 2014 was the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings when my Dad's minesweeper, HMS Loyalty was at the forefront of these landings and the story of his experience is part of a very sad episode in my life. And August 2019 was the 75th anniversary of when my dad was killed.

I left high school aged 14 and a half much to my dad's annoyance and had a variety of extra curricular jobs as well as my main work which was for Laurence Scott and Electromotors. In 1960 I started working for Granada Television in a few very interesting depts, starting as a copytaker in the newsroom where I heard abut the President Kennedy's assassination.

I took redundancy from my last job at Grtanada, which was Picture Editor, a very interesting and rewarding position.

Leo and I were married in August 1952) and to our complete astonishment we received a lovely Diamond Anniversary card from Her Majesty The Queen. We hadn't realised that you receive a card on the 60th anniversary and at first thought it was because The Queen was celebrating her Diamond Anniversaries as well.

Have written a sequel to The Age of Innocence' - called 'Moving On (to a photo finish)' which has now been published on Kindle.

.One of the stories In 'Moving On' tells how I tried to 'lend a hand on the land' in a German prisoner of war camp in Cornwall.

And I was only the 3rd person in the country to hear about President Kennedy's assassination. I also relate instances of things that happened to us which are more than coincidence and try to discover if there is such a thing as foreseeing the future.

The book The Age of Innocence' is now in paperback. It combines the two Kindle Books into one and give up to date details about the family.

Sat 14 Sept, granddaughter Emma was married to Tim Leung. We held the civil ceremony at Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Piccadilly. Very lovely time and hotel was marvelous.

Emma and Tim had their main wedding ceremony on Sat 28 Sept 2019 at a town near Barcelona.

This was a much larger event than the one in Manchester, with guests from all over the world. Unfortunately Leo and I weren't able to go to this.

Unfortunately Leo has now developed altzheimers and had a seizure in Morrisons, he was taken by ambulance to Stepping Hill Hospital and because he may Be liable to have a fit whilst driving he lost his driving licence. This has really upset him and he repeatedly asks 'where has the car, gone and why can't he drive any more; this illness really does teach you to have patience.
