C.A. Spearman

Carol Spearman began writing in high school in Duluth,MN. She remembers her surprise when her creative writing teacher thought her short story was true. Writing was postponed through years of education, raising children and working, sometimes all three at once. Her friends remember the days when she had a full time job and would be briefing cases for law school with a child on her lap, while playing bridge and preparing dinner. Her first published novel, Firewall of the Mind, is the result of a long relationship with conspiracy theory, back to the Kennedy assassination. A chance encounter with a term in a magazine led her to research a technology that is central to the novel. The mind has no firewall against this type of technology. Carol is currently writing a young reader's version, with a similar plot, with her grandson.

Carol spent several years in Britain, working on the issues of unemployment, the environment and responsible tourism. Her organization joined the effort to stop child prostitution in Asian tourism (ECPAT). She wrote her first screenplay about the subject after a writing retreat in a remote corner of Norfolk, England. When the work with ECPAT ended abruptly and she lost her work visa, Carol returned to the US without employment or financial resources.The reasons for these events left her frightened and dismayed by the powerful forces behind trafficking of women and children. Later, she wrote another screenplay, based on the infiltration and cover-ups the organization experienced in 1993. That screen play, The Lie Beyond, won her a place in the Squaw Valley Community of Writers Program. Unable to find a way to get the play on the screen, Carol is now planning to write it as a novel, published on Kindle.

Carol is also very interested in the subject of health - mental, physical, emotional and spiritual and we might add that she is also concerned about the health of our democracy which now seems controlled by big money and multi-national corporations. Carol has written a screenplay and stage play, Angels of Deception, about a book club that gets involved with the issue of suppression of research on the relationship of disease to genetically modified food. The play is based on the information in Jeffrey Smith's book, Seeds of Deception. Carol and her husband traveled to Hungary in 2010 to meet the original researchers of genetically modified crops in order to tell their story with firsthand information. Family history research is another passion and has led to many interesting stories over the years. Work in other countries and a lifetime of unusual experiences has prompted Carol to begin a legacy book for her grandchildren, called Lessons Learned on the Journey. That writing will not be finished for some time!
