Mark Heiss is a lifelong Connecticut resident. He was born in Seymour, spent summers in Milford and schooled in Woodbury. As a teenager, he was given his great-grandfather’s antique cylinder phonograph which started a lifelong passion for phonographs, antiques and local history. A curiosity about the many factory buildings in Waterbury, led Heiss in 2003 to write Waterbury 1890-1930 with postcard collector John Wiehn, for Arcadia Publishing’s Postcard History Series.
After inheriting the family photo collection and uncovering vintage photos of Beacon Falls, a second local history book was a natural. In May of 2012, the book Beacon Falls was released, part of Arcadia Publishing’s popular Images of America series. He has also written or consulted on articles for The National Geographic, Weekly Reader, and several technical journals.
Heiss is a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. He has held a variety of roles at local high technology companies including electrical and software engineering, product management and project management.
Finally, Heiss enjoys spending time at home in Prospect, Connecticut with his wife Beth and son Matthew.
