Bob Scanlon holds a Master's degree in management and has a background in technical education. He is also an experienced professional driver with many years experience using satellite navigation systems. Based in Dolgellau, Wales, he combines expertise in management, education and real-world road navigation. His first book, How to Get More from Your Satnav, was published in 2012.

In 2026, he published a fully updated and expanded book, Road Navigation: The Principles Explained (With advice on the Driving Test), bringing modern navigation techniques and the latest developments in satnav technology to a new generation of drivers.
