Polly Pullar

Polly Pullar is a writer and photographer with a particular interest in wildlife, native farm animals and numerous aspects of the countryside. She has written eleven books, She has written for a wide selection of publications, including The Scots Magazine, The People's Friend, The Scottish Farmer and BBC Wildlife. She was the wildlife writer for The Scottish Field for 10 years.

She is a field naturalist, and wildlife rehabilitator with a passion for red squirrels and owls. and is a huge supporter of small, remote rural communities, and in particular hill sheep farming and the culture that surrounds it. She has also has a passion for Scotland's islands including the Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. She keeps a diverse and extended menagerie including a red deer hind and a small flock of coloured Shetland sheep. Her latest book In the Company of Sheep, from Dartmoor to Shetland, beautifully portrays the pressing need to understand that everyone wants something different from the countryside, but that polarised arguments achieve nothing. Her writing is renowned for revealing the humorous side of life, as well as some of the more worrying issues. She is an avid reader and the co-founder of A Write Highland Hoolie - the Mallaig Book Festival, and also loves chairing author events.
