Tom Matt is a small town Michigan boy who grew up playing baseball and football, just an average American kid. Like so many, he never took his talents seriously.
And, like so many, he took ordinary jobs that led him to Southern California in 1980 with the hope of finishing college. Unfortunately, bad habits gave way to damaging substance addictions. He married, had a daughter, but his lifestyle led to divorce and more change.
In his mid-thirties, Tom realized that he had a serious issue with alcohol and sought help to change his ways. He moved back to Michigan with his daughter and began to live the life he was meant to enjoy.
In 1999, sober and starting to build back his health, Tom reconnected with a high school sweetheart whom he married in 2001. Change begat change, and Tom enrolled at Michigan State University, earning both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Telecommunication Information Studies and Management.
Building on that success, and convinced that fitness leads to improved quality of life, Tom pursued a personal training certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. While completing that program, Tom competed in the Flint All Natural Body Building contest in Flint Michigan, in April of 2010 and, as a rookie competitor, placed 3rd in the Grand Master category, utilizing only whole foods and strength training.
In 2011, Tom became the host of “Boomers Rock” on FTNS.co and has since then interviewed dozens of experts in the field of fitness, nutrition, finance, and brain health. His personal mission is to help others improve the quality of their life. And who better to counsel those seeking help than someone who has made the mistake of venturing into the darkest tunnels life offers, but who found his way out and became a new man during the journey.
